We are often asked about options for upgrading a kitchen and some of the costs associated with updates. Good news! There are easy and economical ways to add value and functionality to your home.

If you like your current layout and your cabinets are in good shape, we definitely recommend refinishing. You can also add trim and inserts easily without much cost add-on.

The average cost of refinishing kitchen cabinets is approximately $4,000.00 and up depending on the size and condition of the kitchen.

If you dislike your doors and drawer fronts, you can replace them. The average cost of new doors and drawer fronts is $8,000 and up depending on the size of your kitchen. Additionally, you may want to consider updating your hardware at this time. A good budget for quality knobs and pulls is around $500 and up.
The average cost of a new kitchen is $35,000-45,000.

Beware of advertising! If a company advertises a deal that seems too good to be true, it might be. For example if an advertisement says you can get a 10×12 kitchen for $5,700.00, that number probably does not include installation, cabinet inserts, moldings and end panels. All of these items are typically priced separately. You also need to consider countertops, lighting, backsplash, plumbing, faucet, sink, hardware, and floor issues. In a full remodel, these prices add up quickly.

Overall, it really comes down to budget. We believe that not having a huge budget does not mean that you can’t update your kitchen. There are easy and economical ways to add value and functionality to your home. Of course, if your cabinets are at the 30-year-old mark, it may be time for a new kitchen.
