A Bright Two-Tone Kitchen with a Statement Blue Island & wet bar

This Marietta kitchen remodel was designed to bring new life and character into a once warm, traditional space. Our clients wanted to create a brighter, more cohesive kitchen with cleaner lines, improved lighting, and a blue island and wet bar to introduce visual contrast. By incorporating clean white cabinetry, a contrasting waterfall island, and a statement tile backsplash extending from countertop to ceiling, the new design feels fresh, modern, and timeless.

A Traditional Kitchen Ready for a Refresh

Before the remodel, the kitchen leaned heavily traditional with dark wood cabinetry, busy granite countertops, and a beige diamond-patterned backsplash. While the cabinetry configuration worked for storage, the darker tones and layered finishes made the space feel visually heavy. The raised bar on the island also divided the room, limiting the sense of openness and connection to the surrounding wet bar and living areas. Although the kitchen had great bones and generous square footage, it was ready for a refresh that would better reflect the homeowners’ style.

The transformation is especially noticeable along the sink wall. The original dark cabinet doors with raised paneling and granite countertops that once framed the bay window have been replaced with white cabinetry with a recessed panel door, new white quartz countertops, gold hardware, and a continuous mosaic-patterned backsplash that wraps the space, allowing natural light to reflect throughout the kitchen.

A closer look at the range wall highlights several thoughtful updates that blend design and functionality. The traditional diamond tile backsplash was replaced with a statement tile highlighted by the under-cabinet lighting. A stained white oak band was added along the base of the existing hood, introducing warmth and a subtle natural contrast to the surrounding white cabinetry. To improve everyday usability and storage, pull-out storage was incorporated on both sides of the range, as well as under the range, providing easy access to cooking essentials while keeping the space organized.

The island saw the most dramatic transformation. The original raised bar was removed and the surface was leveled to create one continuous workspace, improving both functionality and sight-lines across the kitchen. To introduce contrast against the surrounding white cabinetry, the island was finished in a rich blue tone and paired with updated gold hardware. The cabinet door frames were leveled to create a cleaner, more refined look. A waterfall edge was added with the white quartz countertop, giving the island a more architectural presence, turning it into a striking centerpiece for the space.

This section of the kitchen was refreshed with same white cabinetry while maintaining the existing appliances. By keeping the wall ovens and microwave in place, the renovation focused on updating the surrounding cabinetry, countertops, and hardware to create a brighter, more cohesive look that blends seamlessly with the rest of the redesigned kitchen.

The adjacent wet bar saw a major transformation as well, evolving from a small desk-style workspace into a spacious entertainment station that complements the kitchen while adding functionality. Custom base cabinetry was installed and finished in the same rich blue tone as the island, while upper cabinetry was designed with glass-front doors. Below, a new beverage fridge was added, and the continued use of quartz countertops and the statement mosaic backsplash helps tie the wet bar seamlessly into the overall kitchen design.

Details We Love:

  • Statement mosaic tile backsplash extending from countertop to ceiling along the sink wall
  • Stained white oak band added to the base of the hood for warmth and contrast
  • Island leveled to create one continuous surface for prep and gathering
  • Rich blue island cabinetry introducing contrast against the perimeter cabinetry
  • Waterfall quartz countertop on the island for a clean, architectural focal point
  • Under-cabinet lighting to enhance task lighting and highlight the backsplash
  • Updated wet bar with glass-front cabinetry for display and entertaining
  • Quartz countertops carried throughout the kitchen and wet bar for a cohesive design

The Final Result: A Bright, Cohesive Kitchen

A heavy, traditional kitchen is now a bright and cohesive space designed for both everyday living and entertaining. Thoughtful updates — from clean white cabinetry and a statement mosaic backsplash to the contrasting blue island and reimagined wet bar — brought new energy and functionality to the home while maintaining a timeless design. With improved storage, cleaner sightlines, and carefully layered materials throughout, the kitchen now feels open, refined, and perfectly suited to how the homeowners live today.
