Goodbye Granite: Exploring Modern Countertop Materials for 2026
For years, granite was the gold standard in kitchen countertops. Homeowners loved its natural beauty, strength, and timeless appeal. But as design trends evolve, new materials are taking center stage. In 2026, homeowners are saying goodbye to granite and exploring a range of modern surfaces that offer just as much style, with added benefits like sustainability, durability, and low maintenance. If you’re planning a kitchen remodel, here are some of the top countertop materials redefining modern design.
Quartz: The New Classic
Quartz continues to dominate kitchen design, and it’s easy to see why. Made from natural stone combined with resin, quartz surfaces are non-porous, scratch resistant, and available in a huge range of colors and patterns. Unlike granite, quartz doesn’t need to be sealed and is far less prone to staining. The latest collections feature elegant veining that mimics marble, along with soft matte finishes and warm, organic tones that fit perfectly into today’s modern, minimalist kitchens.
